"The Last Play" (2023)
Soft toys from bombed Ukrainian homes, light
115 x 100 cm, heigth 120 cm
The Last Play is created from 96 soft toys collected for this project from bombed and abandoned Ukrainian homes by the charity organization Malyn Volonter and transported to Finland in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association in Pietarsaari. Each toy symbolizes an abrupt end to childhood. These toys are no longer played with. We don’t know what happened to all the children who lived in these homes, whether they were forced to flee, survived the bombing, or if their lives tragically ended there and then. The piece serves as a reminder of lost innocence, the lives of children cut short, and the traumas war leaves behind.
