This shadow sculptures series reflects the quiet pressures and contradictions of everyday life. The works explore a constant sense of not being enough—wanting to be more efficient, more successful, more present, while always reaching for something just beyond the present moment. Time, self-image, productivity, and consumption intertwine in a cycle where satisfaction remains elusive.
The pieces are mostly constructed from discarded materials—objects tied to the themes they represent—and transformed through light into detailed shadow images. This interplay between material and illusion highlights the tension between what we show and what remains hidden.
At the same time, the works approach these themes with a touch of humor and self-awareness. Rather than observing from a distance, they emerge from lived experience: the struggle to balance work and family, the pull of screens, the difficulty of being content in the present, and the awareness that these concerns can feel both deeply personal and, in a broader context, almost trivial.
The series was presented in a solo exhibition at Kuopio Art Museum in 2022 and has also been shown at Finlayson Art Area and Purnu Art Centre.
